Melina Xu
Co-Founder

Melina Xu is the Canadian Smooth 4 Dance Finalist and is a multi-dimensional Dance instructor/Performer/Event organizer specializing in Latin/Ballroom/Belly dance. As a partner at the National Ballroom Academy, she has performed and has had many successes with Glen Michael. One of her latest achievements was to dance the Waltz at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro – a world record climb (5895m) and dance. Melina was also chosen by Disney to perform at the opening of Beauty and the Beast at Casa Loma. Melina has also been part of organizing the Starlight Dancesport competition (a worldwide Ballroom Dance Championship competition) and The BKS Congress at the downtown Sheraton Hotel. Her creation “Free Style Belly Dance” has inspired many women to join the movement in the art of learning how to Belly Dance. As a member of Canadian Dancesport Federation, she has had the opportunity to dance and work with a number of Canadian Champions and looks forward to meeting all the challenges and joys that come with following her passion – Dancing!!

Mark Shpuntov
Senior Instructor

Mark Shpuntov is passionate about bringing fun and excitement to every lesson he teaches. He prides himself on both the progress his students make as well as the laughter and joy they experience during the lessons. “My goal is not only to help each student become the dancer of their dreams, but to help them become greater, more confident, and more graceful than they ever thought they could be.” Mark has trained with some of the top coaches in the ballroom world. He has worked side by side with world champions and even some of the coaches from Dancing With The Stars. From his varied experiences in the Ballroom and Latin world, he strives to bring the most effective teaching methods and the latest dance trends. He has traveled the world with his students, attending competitions everywhere from Puerto Rico to Las Vegas. He has helped students with no previous dance experience win first place in some of the biggest competitions. Mark was a finalist in a worldwide top instructor competition with the Arthur Murray organization representing Canada in the New Orleans Allstars finals. He is adamant in his belief that anybody can learn how to dance and have a great time doing so!

Glen Michael
President/Founder

Glen Michael became an instant success when joining the Ballroom industry in 1997. He currently sits as a judge and is the President/Founder of the National Ballroom Academy. Among other highlights, Glen has been featured on Rogers Television in an ongoing dance segment, has participated on Stage at the Air Canada Center in the “Dancing With the Stars” Pre-Show, and his latest ventures include creating the Starlight Dancesport Championship –and the popular Dancing in the Park series in Markham. He has also danced the Waltz at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with his partner Melina Xu (a world record) and was recently chosen by Disney in 2017 to feature dancing at Casa Loma for the opening of the movie Beauty and the Beast

Ronen Cherniavski
Senior Instructor

Starting to dance at the age of 7, Ronen quickly found his art form of choice. Teaching dance followed years later as he developed the skill of translating movements into words. With highly competitive results, too many to mention and attention to detail, Ronen has changed the lives of many people from teens to seniors by giving them a basic understanding of movement while allowing people to still enjoy the learning of dance

Irina Khanova
Senior Instructor

Irina is the 2018 Canadian Professional 10 Dance Champion. and represented Canada in the World Championships in 2018.
Born in Russia in 1993, Irina started dancing when she was 7 years old. She represented Russia for many years and is competing in both Latin and ballroom since her childhood till nowadays.
Irina started teaching kids when she was 18, and is also a professional swimmer where she is a candidate of masters in swimming (backstroke) and finished University of Economics in Russia.
Her parents are professional music players and sportsmen. That’s why Irina loves dancing and teaching kids and adults a lot.
`Teaching kids is very responsible and interesting at the same time. This fantastic job helps you to see the World in different ways and also you can learn a lot from the kids because kids are very talented, open and smart small people, who are ready to explore and learn new things. I want to say thank you to my parents and to all parents, who support and help their kids to learn, develop and to do the things, they really enjoy and love. Our dreams come true because of our family!`- Irina says.
